MARTA BIAGINI
“REPRESENTATIONS”
Versions of the representation.
Allegories and events
It opens on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 7:00 PM,
Marta Biagini’s painting exhibition,
on the second floor of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation.
In this theme, the painter composes settings in which space—total and symbolic, obsessive and comforting—is experienced in a transcendent relationship with the human psyche. In his texts, he also creates surreal moments and plot twists during performances. He paints environments of presence and heterotopia—narrative yet enclosed. We observe symbols and references to the real intertwining. It captures influences from the Italian art tradition (Renaissance and Metaphysical art) alongside the tenets of Greek harmony, the central point, and measure.
Marta Biagini employs—in an almost mathematical manner—a combination of variables, symbols, and representations that express their relationships within a metaphorical world. These forms find their reason for being in other places, leading to an exploration that is constantly renewed from one composition to the next. In this way, she conveys to her work a new image, idea, or impression, formed in the consciousness through the description of the roles.
“Her work contains no landscape painting, nor is there a need to express a conventionally structured space. Scenography is her landscape… After all, metaphysical painting—and her work is inextricably linked to it—is characterized by a profound theatricality,” notes Panagiotis S. Papadopoulos (Psychoanalyst, IPA-HPS)
Finally, as a vehicle of memory and interaction, Marta Biagini cannot remain indifferent to harsh current events. There, the performance, as an act of recollection, dissolves into the tragic. Existential and social issues now touch upon the necessity of documentation and denunciation.
