MARTA BIAGINI

“REPRESENTATIONS”

Versions of the representation.

Allegories and events

It opens on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 7:00 PM,

Marta Biagini’s painting exhibition,

on the second floor of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation.

In this body of work, the painter constructs scenographic compositions in which space—at once total and symbolic, obsessive and comforting—is experienced through a transcendent relationship with the human psyche. Employing her distinctive artistic signature, she creates surreal vignettes and subversions of imagery. She paints environments of presence and heterotopia—settings that are simultaneously narrative and self-contained. We observe an intertwining of symbols and references to reality. She fuses influences from the Italian art tradition (the Renaissance and *Pittura Metafisica*) with the principles of Greek harmony, centrality, and measure.

Marta Biagini employs—in an almost mathematical manner—a combination of variables, symbols, and representations that articulate their relationships within a metaphorical world. These forms find their raison d’être in other realms, leading to an exploration that is constantly renewed from one composition to the next. In this way, she conveys a new image, idea, or impression in her work—one that arises in the consciousness through the description of roles.

“Her work contains no landscape painting, nor is there a need to express a conventionally structured space. Scenography is her landscape… After all, metaphysical painting—and her work is inextricably linked to it—is characterized by a profound theatricality,” notes Panagiotis S. Papadopoulos (Psychoanalyst, IPA-EPSE).

Finally, as a vehicle for memory and interaction, Marta Biagini cannot remain indifferent to harsh current events. Here, the performance—as an act of recollection—permeates the realm of the tragic. Existential and social issues now take on the imperative of documentation and denunciation.
